Dunkirk fire crews responds to train fire

Friday morning, just before 11, the Dunkirk Fire Department responded to a call of a fire located under a CSX railroad car. The train was stopped at the overpass of Park Street and Third Street in Dunkirk.

At 11:10 a.m., a half-dozen firefighters gathered around the rail car as water was pumped through a hose to douse the flames, which were not visible from the road. A faint scent of smoke could be detected from across the street below the overpass.

Three fire trucks were parked on site at the intersection of Park Street and Third Street. The fire appeared to be located underneath one rail car near the front of the train. No individuals from the cargo train were observed receiving medical attention.

Starting at $3.50/week.
