An Ohio man who was swimming and went missing on Chautauqua Lake was located Sunday.

On Saturday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a submerged swimmer on Chautauqua Lake north of Chautauqua Institution. The Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team and the department’s marine division responded and were unable to locate the swimmer. The search was paused due to darkness and resumed on Sunday. Around noon, the subject was located by the New York State Police Underwater Recovery team utilizing side scan sonar. Divers from CCWET recovered the body who was identified as Peter Pizzulo, 63, of Cortland, Ohio.

The Sheriff’s office was assisted by North Lake Fire Department, Bemus Point Fire Department, Lakewood Fire Department, and the state police Underwater Recovery team.
