Protest brings out hundreds in Fredonia
Hundreds of area residents brought signs while taking part in a No Kings rally on Saturday morning in Fredonia. It began with a march at 10 a.m. from Central Avenue at Cottage Street and proceeding down Central to Barker Commons with speakers and music. Later, at about the same time as the parade in Washington, 6 p.m., there was to be a standing protest assembled across from the Walmart on Route 60, with participants encouraged to make and bring signs to show their concerns. Local organizers are emphasizing that anyone wanting to join in must have peaceful, serious participation, with safety as a priority. As it is also Flag Day, participants are also welcome to bring flags and display them respectfully. Across the nation, thousands gathered for a flagship “No Kings” march in Philadelphia to the Museum of Art. Atlanta’s 5,000-capacity “No Kings” rally quickly reached its limit, with thousands more outside the barrier to hear speakers in front of the state Capitol. Governors and city officials are vowing to protect the right to protest and to show no tolerance for violence. Republican governors in Virginia, Texas and Missouri are mobilizing National Guard troops.
