Man charged in Jamestown shooting

A Jamestown man has been charged with assault and weapons possession after the city’s second shooting in less than a month.

Xavier M. Ramos, 23, of Jamestown was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after officers responded to a shooting at 12:58 a.m. Thursday on East Second Street near Cheney Street for a reported gunshot complaint. Officers arrived on the scene to find a man who had been shot several times. Officers provided immediate treatment to the man, who was then taken to UPMC Chautauqua and then flown to UPMC Hamot for further treatment. Police report the man was severely injured but is expected to survive.

Detectives from the Jamestown Police Department Investigative Section continued with the investigation. Around 4 p.m. Thursday, Ramos was charged. He was taken into custody without incident, according to police, and taken to the city jail until he could be arraigned.
