Sinclairville woman charged after shooting incident

GERRY — A Sinclairville woman is facing charges after recklessly discharging a firearm and injuring an individual.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report they and New York State Police responded to an residence on Old Chautauqua Road in the town of Gerry for a reported gunshot victim around 10 a.m. Monday. Through investigation it was found that Toni L Long, 35, did recklessly discharge a firearm inside of the residence. As a result, one person sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment. Long was located a short time after the incident and was taken into custody with the assistance of the New York State Police.

Long was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail where she was to be arraigned on the charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree assault and second-degree menacing.

The incident led to Cassadaga Valley Central Schools going into a lockout situation for a portion of Monday. “The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” the district said in a Facebook post. “We are grateful for the swift response of local law enforcement, our School Safety Advisor, and our school teams, as well as the patience and cooperation of families during today’s precautionary measure.”
