Couple charged after 4-year-old found on Thruway

A Silver Creek couple has been charged after a 4-year-old child was found walking on Interstate 90.

On Thursday, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation charged Robert L. Lyman, 31 and Mikayla A. Miller, 30, with endangering the welfare of a child.

At 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Troopers responded to the state Thruway westbound near Silver Creek for a found child on the side of the highway. Investigation determined that a vehicle traveling visually observed a young child enter the road. The operator of that vehicle pulled over and called 911 and kept the child out of the road until Troopers arrived.

The residence of Lyman and Miller is not far from the I-90. Child Protective Services were making an unannounced visit and discovered the 4-year-old was not in the residence. They started searching the residence and surrounding area and noticed the State Police vehicle’s emergency lights. Troopers advised CPS and Lyman that they had the child and was in good health.

Child Protective Services are working with the family on the safety of the children. Both Lyman and Miller were issued appearance tickets for Hanover town court.
