Townsend St. home damaged in city fire

An early evening fire Wednesday in the city of Dunkirk heavily damaged a home at 140 Townsend St.
The Dunkirk Fire Department reports at 5:21 p.m., it was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found fire and smoke coming from the rear of the two-story house. Firefighters made an aggressive attack and brought the fire under control using multiple hose lines and tools.
Two pets were also rescued. Assistance was received from Fredonia Fire Department, East Dunkirk Fire Department, Dunkirk Police Department, ALSTAR EMS, Chautauqua County Emergency Services, City Code Enforcement, National Grid and National Fuel.
Crews were on scene for approximately two hours. There were no reported injuries. The occupants of the house are being assisted by the Red Cross.
City and Chautauqua County Fire Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire
