Ripley man injured after being hit by train

RIPLEY — A town resident escaped serious injury after being struck by a train Saturday evening.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded with the Ripley Fire Department and New York State Police to a reported train-versus-pedestrian incident around 9:20 p.m. It was reported the pedestrian attempted to cross the tracks before the train crossed which resulted in the pedestrian being struck.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located an injured individual near the railroad crossing. Michael Smith, 31, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further medical treatment.
