Fredonia under another boil water order

1 min read

Fredonia doesn't need Halloween to scare itself. It has its water system -- newly slapped with yet another boil water order.

The Village of Fredonia Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the village's water treatment plant and the Chautauqua County Department of Health, issued a boil water order at 8:45 a.m. today.

The stated reason was "High turbidity levels and treatment deficiencies." Fredonia was already under a water conservation order, caused by filtering challenges from at least two weeks of no rain.

Fredonia water customers should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then let it cool before using for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation and washing produce, and preparing baby formula.

"The order will remain in place until testing confirms the water is safe," the Office of Emergency Management release stated. Boil orders typically last at least 48 hours, as a series of tests must be made and it takes a little time to get the results.
