Winter Festival features many events, activities

MAYVILLE – The 2016 President’s Day Weekend Winter Festival, held Feb. 12 to 14 at Lakeside Park, will feature many events and activities this year.

Several contests will take place again at the festival. On Feb. 13 the popular Snowball Distance Throwing Contest, sponsored by Westfield Dodge City, Westfield will be held for ages 4 to adult.

The Lego Creation Building Contest for ages 3 to 15 will take place during the festival weekend and will be sponsored by North Shore Specialties, Mayville.

On Feb. 14 the Children’s Golf Ball Race, sponsored by Beauty Boutique, Mayville will take place for ages 4 to 12, as well as the Children’s Snowman/Animal Building Contest sponsored by Andriaccio’s Restaurant for ages 4 to 12.

All of these contests will have cash prizes donated by their sponsors.

The chili cook-off will again take place this year at the festival on Feb. 13. If you make a “mean” chili and would like to enter the cook-off this year, call Ken Shearer at 753-0981 for information on participating.

Family Health Medical Services will again host the Polar Plunge benefitting food pantries in Chautauqua County. If you would like to take a cold dip in Chautauqua Lake for this good cause, call 753-7107 (Ext. 100) for information and the forms to sign up.

There are several new events being planned this year. A volleyball tournament, being held behind Lakeview Hotel, Mayville, will be held during the festival weekend, with details to follow. Call 553-1423 to sign up a team to participate in this event.

A Fat Tire Bike Race is being planned to take place at the festival this year, organized by the Hollyloft, Jamestown. Call Hollyloft Ski and Bike at 483-2330 for information on this event.

The Stones Throwing Association will host the “Hoth Invitational” Stones Tournament on Feb. 13, as part of the festival at Lakeside Park, Mayville beginning at 10 a.m. On Feb. 14 they will have free open play for those interested in learning about the game of Stones from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (a cross between bocce and golf).

There will be a Pet Parade on Feb. 13 at the festival. If you would like to participate in this event, call the Chamber office at 753-3113 for information. All pets are welcome.
