Community education classes set for spring in Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — A few unique music and art classes are being offered to the public this spring by the Silver Creek Central School District’s Community Education division.

Check the school website www.silvercreekschools.org for a registration form, dates, times and more class offerings. Pre-registration is necessary for all classes and ensures that the classes will be held. If you have any questions, please contact your instructor regarding cancellations.

Drumming/Meditation: Join the drum circle, feel the rhythm and the camaraderie. Participating in a drum circle is a healing experience for the heart/mind/body and spirit. It creates physical exercise and entertainment from the whole group. Six classes will be held on Saturdays from May 6 to June 17 from noon to 2 p.m. in Crowe Commons at the Middle School. There is no course fee but please register for a head count. Older children welcome. Love donations will be accepted and donated to Hoka Hey to raise awareness for the need for water on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Instructor is Craig Duke Thompson, an ordained minister, spiritual counselor, Reiki master and drumming facilitator.

Voices with Glory: Do you wish to sing with happiness and beauty? Do you wish to make harmony with your friends and family? Are you a secret shower singer? Instructor Sondra Holland, a state-certified vocal teacher, will lead five classes on Mondays from May 8 to June 12 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Room 415 (Elementary Chorus Room). Students will help develop their own unique voice while singing the good oldies, songs of peace, love and fun and making music together. The fee is $25.

Rubber Stamp Card Making: Instructor Jody Enser will lead this two-class course on Tuesday, May 9 and Tuesday, June 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 154 at the high school The fee is $5 per class to be paid to instructor during class time. Rubber stamping will be used to make handcrafted greeting cards. Students will make two each of three different cards; each class will be different. A minimum of two students is required for each class.

¯ Call 951-8111 and leave a message with your name, number, and the name of your course(s). You will not receive a confirmation call. If the course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you will be called. Those 65 and older get a 15 percent discount.

¯ Send in your money promptly, with a registration form (available at www.silvercreek.wnyric.org and your course fees. (Include separate checks for each person.)

SILVER CREEK — Proceeds from a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue slated Tuesday will help fund the annual Class Night Bash for the Silver Creek Central School District.

The senior class is selling pre-sale barbecue tickets for $9.50; see a member of the Class of 2017 to purchase a ticket. The cost includes a half chicken, macaroni salad, tossed salad and a cookie. Those paying via check should make it payable to Student Impact or Class of 2017. Dinners can be picked up in the high school cafeteria from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday or there is the option to eat the dinner in the school cafeteria. The public is invited and tickets will also be sold at the door.

The profits from this community dinner will help fund the drug-and-alcohol-free celebration that follows the Class Night Ceremony, which recognizes the 2017 graduates. This year’s celebration is slated Friday, June 9.
