BROCTON — Reunion weekend proved to be a good opportunity for visiting Brocton Central alumni to get a glimpse of the latest addition to the town of Portland and village of Brocton: the Brad Anderson and Marmaduke statue.
Portland Town Councilman and Brad Anderson Recognition Committee Co-chair Jerry Boltz gave a positive report recently from Town Hall at the monthly council meeting about the number of visitors that stepped through the statue site. According to Boltz, the committee has secured the opportunity for travel brochures about the site to be distributed throughout the county at tourist information racks.
The councilman also gave a nod to Town Highway Supervisor Ron Delcamp and his crew for assisting with signage being placed, and the necessary concrete work. He also reported that a new order of fundraiser bricks will be placed.
Committee member and fellow Trustee Patricia Farrell also noted that a handmade Amish visitor information box is soon to be installed so that visitors can take information to remember their visit and leave their information on visitor’s log, like the one at Luensmann Overlook Park.
Boltz added that, “We have some other projects taking place, which include signage for New York state Routes 5 and 20 and County Route 380 to direct visitors to the site. We have a lot of pieces of the puzzle that are coming together nicely.”
In other matters, Town Clerk Roxane Sobecki recognized Trustee Rick Manzella and his wife Laura for their donation of a completed puzzle to be hung in Town Hall. A gift from the Association of Towns, the puzzle depicts New York state along with words representing how town governments function throughout the state.
Sobecki also acknowledged Town Dog Control Officer Clarence Grover and wife Diane for their hard work put forth for another successful rabies clinic held last month. In total, over 250 animals were able to receive vaccinations through the clinic
The town council is slated to meet again on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at the community building at Van Buren Point. This is a change of location for the normal monthly council meeting.
