Fredonia Halloween parade set for Saturday

The Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret Recreation Department annual Halloween Costume Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 p.m. The afternoon event will begin with floats, bands and costumed marchers parading south on Temple Street to Church Street.

The Grand Marshal for this year’s event will be Paul DiFonzo. Mr. DiFonzo retired in March from his position as Superintendent of the Fredonia Central School District. He is being honored for his service to the children of the community and always being welcoming of Recreation Department activities held at district facilities. His support and assistance will truly be missed.

Individual marchers and organized groups are encouraged to participate in the parade and are asked to line up at 12:30 p.m at the end of Risley Street. Prizes will be awarded to the best-judged entries. Applications to march in the parade can be downloaded from the Village website at villageoffredoniany.com. Applications must be submitted to the Recreation Department no later than Friday, Oct. 27.

Following the parade, cider and donuts will be served in the Barker Commons Gazebo. Everyone is invited to participate.

Trick-or-treating will take place in the village and town from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Parents are encouraged to tell their children not to trick or treat beyond 7:00 p.m. Residents are urged to turn porch lights off at 7:00 p.m., thus signaling further trick or treating will not be accepted.
