WESTFIELD — The regular meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the McClurg Museum in Westfield on Nov. 2. The meeting was called to order and the opening ritual performed by Regent Brenda Johnson and Vice-Regent Deborah Cenni. Lisa Sedlmayer read the DAR National Defense article. Secretary Myra Johnston read the minutes from the previous meeting. Treasurer Bonnie Larkin read the treasurer’s report. Dawn Ubaney, registrar, was absent.

John Paul Wolfe of the Chautauqua County Historical Society pointed out and gave a brief history of the beautiful silk oriental rug that was just acquired for the parlor the DAR meets in. On Nov. 18, he and the Chautauqua County Historical Society are hosting a Holiday Victorian Tea at the McClurg Museum in Westfield from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. An admission is charged, but no reservation is required. It is rumored that Queen Victoria was planning to attend.

Brenda Johnson, Regent Benjamin Prescott Chapter NSDAR with Sedlmayer, Chaplain Benjamin Prescott Chapter NSDAR, performed the official ceremony to induct Jill Babcock into the Benjamin Prescott Chapter. The chapter is honored to have Jill join them in its Mission of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotic Service. She is now an official member of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her membership is a special treat for her mother, Mercy Warren. Warren is celebrating 50 years as a member of the DAR this month, and the Chapter is celebrating with her. What an honor to have Warren reach her 50th year in the DAR and have her daughter join her! Babcock is a fourth generation daughter! To honor her Mom, Jill presented her with DAR Pins. Babcock was presented with a pin, a member packet and a rose. The highlight of the celebration was a certificate from President General Ann Turner Dillon at National Headquarters to congratulate her on her 50 years of service and a personal letter from Wilhelmena Rhodes Kelly, New York state vice regent. Congratulations, Mercy!

Everyone is asked to remember to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The Chapter is participating in a Veterans Day Service and recognizing POW’s on Nov. 11, 2017 at Fredonia Place with the Fredonia American Legion Post 59.

Members are asked to submit their volunteer hours.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m. and a beautifully decorated bakery cake was enjoyed in celebration.

The next meeting is Dec. 14 at noon for the Christmas party.

Those who had an ancestor that fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War and would like to join the DAR are encouraged to call Dawn Ubaney at 679-1218 for more information.

Starting at $3.50/week.
