Mayor Rosas proclaims May 25-27 as ‘Dunkirk Memorial Unit No. 62 Poppy Days’
Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas has proclaimed the days of May 25, 26 and 27 as “Dunkirk Memorial Unit No. 62 Poppy Days” in the city of Dunkirk.
With the proclamation, the city encourages all citizens, residents and visitors to wear a poppy to honor every service member who has died in the name of liberty, freedom and democracy while also showing their support for living veterans, service members and their families.
The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol for sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country in all wars. It reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by veterans while protecting freedoms.
Members of the Dunkirk Memorial American Legion Auxiliary Unit 62 will be selling poppies at various locations in the community on May 25 through 27 with 100 percent of proceeds going to help disabled and hospitalized veterans and their families.
The American Legion Auxiliary has pledged to remind Americans each year that the men and women who have served and died for their country deserve to be remembered.
