County fair holds sheep livestock show

The Chautauqua County Fair Open Sheep Livestock Show was held this past Tuesday in the Livestock Arena.

The 2018 Chautauqua County Fair Open Sheep Show consisted of nine breeds of sheep totaling 134 animals , 242 entries and 52 exhibitors. From all corners of Chautauqua County they came to show their best. The categories included wool, duel purpose, meat/commercial and hair sheep.

Fairgoers were able to see the sheep being prepared for the show which included washing, drying and shearing all the while being able to stop, ask questions and visit with the exhibitors. As fairgoers toured the barn they were able to read all of the informative educational materials displayed throughout the barn. Of interest to many were the subjects of health, breeds of sheep, proper feeding and nutritional requirements of sheep, as well as byproducts of the livestock. Items made from wool and how to shear a sheep were of great interest. The Sheep Barn “hosts” also had recipes available .

Be sure to stop by and become part of the Sheep Barn experience at the 2018 Chautauqua County Fair!
