Mobile Windsong unit aims for early cancer detection
Windsong Radiology Group, PC is now literally driving early detection throughout the eight counties of Western New York, including the Dunkirk area. As a provider of mobile breast cancer screening, Windsong is eliminating barriers to breast cancer screening in communities with limited or no access to breast cancer screening and building relationships with community partners to help improve access.
One such partner, Spoke Folk (A Community Bicycle Project), who along with the Meals on Two Wheels Project delivers hot and nutritious meals to the Dunkirk residents who are unable to cook for themselves. Spoke Folk has collaborated with Windsong to promote Windsong’s mobile mammography program and encourages Dunkirk area women to utilize the mobile breast cancer screenings designed for those women challenged with limited or no access to breast cancer screening, and a lack of transportation and insurance.
As one of the first free standing breast imaging facilities in the area to offer 3D breast cancer screening (digital breast tomosynthesis) technology, Windsong is committed to using state of the art technology on its mobile mammography coach to improve early detection of cancer.
Thus far, the mobile mammography team has served nearly 750 women. “The ability to detect cancers early and give women the ability to treat their cancers when they are most easily treated has been an incredibly positive and rewarding experience,” says Jamie Stasiak, program coordinator for Windsong’s Mobile Mammography Unit.
Windsong has great pride in this initiative and appreciates all of the physician and community partners that are helping to bring screening to underserved areas throughout WNY. More specifically, Windsong is appreciative of all of the Dunkirk community partners such as Walgreens, the Salvation Army and many others who will continue to partner with Windsong along the way.
