Fredonia’s Miracle on Main Street set for Saturday

OBSERVER File Photo Fredonia’s annual Miracle on Main Street is set for Saturday at West Barker Common.

On Saturday, Miracle on Main Street is set to close Fredonia’s festival season with a Santa-sized dose of Christmas cheer.

“The main theme this year is focused squarely on the various miracles that come with the holidays, including the Miracle of the Holiday,” event chairman Larry Fiorella stated in an email to the OBSERVER. “I was very deliberate in getting the Fredonia Community Chamber of Commerce, 1891 Fredonia Opera House and the Fredonia Grange No. 1 involved and engaged, showing the community that we are all working together for the betterment of the community by showcasing the various businesses in Fredonia and having the opera house screen ‘The Polar Express’ for the children.”

West Barker Common will be the scene of much of the festivities. There will be food vendors and a Christmas wreaths and trees will be for sale there from 10 a.m. until sold out. The wreaths will benefit Boy Scout Troop No. 267 and the proceeds from the trees go to the Salvation Army.

That group will also be represented in the park, at the visitors booth with a Red Kettle Campaign outpost and a nonperishable food drive. In keeping with the theme Fiorella mentioned, this is promoted as the “Miracle of Sharing” on Festivals Fredonia’s Miracle on Main Street web page.

“The Miracle of Life” will happen from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a Community Blood Bank blood drive along Park Avenue and in West Barker Common.

More miracles hit West Barker Common at the gazebo at 3:30 p.m., when Santa takes a break from planning his Christmas deliveries for the lighting of the village Christmas tree (“The Miracle of the Holiday”). The annual Festivals Fredonia Giveback Presentation to Fredonia Grange No. 1 (“The Miracle of Giving”) will then occur.

At 4 p.m. is the free “Polar Express” screening Fiorella referred to, at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House, 9-11 Church Street.

Other Miracle on Main Street events include:

¯ From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a Christmas ornament sale at the WCA Home, 134 Temple St.

¯ From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fredonia Grange No 1, 58 W. Main St., there will be a holiday craft show featuring more than 25 local vendors and a basket raffle. Also at the Grange, from 1 to 3 p.m., is a kids crafts workshop and visit with Santa Claus, hosted by Festivals Fredonia. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.
