There were two fire calls in November. One of those incidents was in the village. The response was for a smoke alarm activation at 21 Brewer. The other response was a mutual aid call to Brocton for a trailer fire.

There were three motor vehicle accidents in November. Two of the accidents were on the New York State Thruway. The Fire Department responded to a report of a truck versus deer at mile marker 484.0. The second accident was a car versus deer at mile marker 479.3. The third accident in November was at the intersection of Route 20 and Prospect.

The 44 responses in November was a decrease from the 63 responses in October. Since Jan. 1, 2018, the Fire Department of Westfield has responded to a total of 567 incidents.

In the month of December, we celebrate the Christmas season which often includes a Christmas tree inside the house. Christmas tree fires can be devastating and can rapidly consume your home. If you have a live tree, make sure that it has water every day, and ensure that any lights you use are checked for breaks or exposed wires. If you have any concerns about the integrity of your Christmas lights, remove them from your tree and dispose of them.

The Fire Department of Westfield wishes you a very happy New Year!
