Mother of murder victim speaks out

MAYVILLE – The mother of William Michishima — the Jamestown man who was shot and killed in July of last year — said she’s hoping to see justice for her son.

Jessie Michishima has attended the first two days of the second-degree murder trial of David Waggoner, though she’s not sure she will be able to make it to the Chautauqua County Courthouse for the duration of the trial.

Waggoner is accused of shooting 30-year-old William Michishima on July 24, 2018, in front of his Jamestown home. William Michishima was taken to an Erie, Pa., hospital where he was pronounced dead the following day.

Jessie Michishima believes the shooting was a senseless act of violence over a motorcycle. She said her son was “tough growing up” but had met a woman who “made him go to church every Sunday.” She added that her son had given his girlfriend a promise ring and was hoping the two would eventually marry.

“I just want justice,” Jessie Michishima said. “I’m not a mean person. … A kid died over this. It’s still sinking in. I’m able to go throughout the day without any issues, but at nighttime when you’re in bed saying a prayer it’s tough.”

Jessie Michishima said she plans to sell her son’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson is prosecuting the murder trial. Waggoner is being represented by Public Defender Ned Barone.

The trial is being overseen by County Court Judge David Foley.
