Lake Erie Bird Club’s next meeting to be held on Monday

The Lake Erie Bird Club will meet Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at Greystone Nature Preserve, 8531 Bear Lake Road, Fredonia. Dr. Terence Mosher will lead a bird and wildflower walk through the beautiful nature preserve. All are welcome to attend.

Twenty-four members attended the April meeting conducted by Dr. Mosher. Members shared recent bird sightings and information was provided about the May Buffalo Ornithological Society bird count on May 19. Jonathan Townsend, Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy Land Manager presented the evening program about bats and plants and the relationship between them. Plants depend on bats for pollination, seed dispersal and insect control. He provided information about a great variety of bats. There are about 1,300 species of bats.

Betty and Gary Dickinson provided refreshments for the meeting. For information about the Lake Erie Bird Club call John and Beverly Ruska at 679-9676.
