Vegetarian society to meet Wednesday

Joanne and Mary Zdrojewski

The Chautauqua County Vegetarian-Vegan Society will meet on Wednesday, May 8 at 6 p.m. at the YWCA, 58 S. Portage St., Westfield. During the longer days of spring and summer meetings will be held on Wednesday evenings.

This month’s presenters will be Joanne and Mary Zdrojewski of Jamestown. They will speak with us about “The Musical Fruit.” They will discuss the wide variety of beans available and how to use them; the health benefits of including beans every day in your diet; and some new and creative ways to use beans in snacks, meals, and even desserts.

Joanne and Mary are mother and daughter, and they are wonderful cooks. They are both dedicated vegans and follow a plant-based whole-food diet. They have spoken at the Vegetarian Society in the past, and their presentation promises to be both entertaining and informative.

The menu for the evening will be potluck. Those attending are invited (but not required) to bring a nutritious dish to share which will serve eight to ten people. All food should be vegan (no meat, eggs or dairy products), and, if possible, organic and locally grown. Those attending should also bring their own table service.

The cost of the dinner is $6 per person, or $2 per person if you bring a dish to share, with reduced rates for children. For more information or to make a reservation, call Gail Erb at 753-7761 or Anne Watkins at 782-4334, or email annewatkins@juno.com..

All meetings are open to the public, especially to those who are interested in learning more about healthy eating and living. It is not necessary to be vegan or vegetarian to attend the meeting. The Vegetarian Society is an information and support group for individuals seeking to explore healthy eating through vegetarian or vegan lifestyles. The group meets monthly for a vegan dinner.
