Barker Library announces upcoming events
The Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia, has announced a number of events. When registration is required, call the library at 672-8051.
“Tired All the Time? Learn the Secrets to Having Sustained Energy” workshop will be offered Monday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at the library. This free event is presented by Kristian Reiber, IAWP Certified Wellness Coach and will show participants how to sustain energy without needing sugar or caffeine.
“Mediations in Paint,” is back by popular demand. This peaceful painting experience is guided by local artist D’Arsie Manzella on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Listen to music, allow brushes to move paint across paper in a non-structured way. Registration is required. Limited space, so sign up soon.
Uke-newbie Workshop will take place Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. It’s intended for beginners and those who’d like to work on basics. It focuses on basic chords (C, C7, F, Am, G, G7) and strumming. Extra ukes will be available. All are welcome. These session moves slowly, with some one-on-one attention. As part of Summer Reading at New York Libraries, the State Education Department and myON® by Renaissance®, are partnering to bring thousands of authentic, enhanced digital books to children from birth through 12th grade and their families all around the state. Unlimited, 24/7 access to the myOn® digital library will be available through a single shared account login from May 1 through September 30.
Children and families can read online using any web-enabled device and offline using free mobile apps.
Call for Artists: The Darwin R. Barker Library is seeking visual art in a variety of mediums for display in the Library’s exhibit spaces for one month’s time. Mediums include photography, painting, illustration, mixed media, jewelry, small sculpture, woodworking, glass arts and fabric arts. Self-taught and professional artists from Chautauqua County are welcome to submit artwork.

Storytime returns Tuesday, Sept. 3. Regular storytime hours are: Preschool: Mondays at 10:15 a.m. and All Ages: Tuesdays at 4:15 p.m. No registration is required. Enjoy Stories, movies, songs, play. Caregivers are welcome to browse the Library’s collections, use a public computer or enjoy free WIFI while children are at programs. All children are welcome. No registration is required. Logo Design contest: Darwin R. Barker Library needs a new logo and we want YOU to design it!! Entries will be accepted Aug. 25 through Oct. 31. Get your creative designs ready and email your image to barkercircdm@gmail.com. Requirements for entry: Image in .jpg format; clear and concise; Designer age 10 to 101.The winning design will be digitally formatted for library use. The designer will be credited and awarded a canvas tote printed with the new logo!
