A passenger in this accident on Route 83 sustained serious injuries Saturday morning.

ARKWRIGHT — A Dunkirk man is being charged with second-degree vehicular assault after an accident early this morning.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies responded to a personal injury accident on Route 83. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Jeffery L. Ortel and an investigation found him to be impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol. A passenger in the vehicle sustained serious physical injury and was transported by ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Ortel was taken into custody and additionally charged with failure to keep right, driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol. He was held at Chautauqua County Jail pending arraignment.
