Former employee charged in theft from Mayville store

MAYVILLE — A former employee of a village store is being charged in the theft if cash from the establishment, police announced this morning.

On Friday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Lighthouse Point Grocery in regards to a theft. After an investigation, it was found, that John P. Selig Jr., who was an employee at the time, entered the office of the store and took money.

Selig, 24, was later taken into custody after a traffic stop and was charged with petit larceny, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, unlicensed operator and insufficient tail lamps.

He was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for his arraignment.
