JAMESTOWN — Jamestown Community College’s Liberty Partnerships Program welcomed 22 high school students from Jamestown, Dunkirk, and Salamanca to a camp experience earlier this summer.

Participants in the four-day overnight program earned a college credit by completing the “Making Positive Choices” course facilitated by Simone Sellstrom and Joachim Ogodi. Other camp highlights included a tour of the National Comedy Center and an etiquette dinner at the Landmark restaurant.

On a tour of Chautauqua Institution, students visited an art gallery, participated in the Poetry Makers Space, and did a presentation about identity.

“I am very lucky and extremely grateful for all the opportunities the Liberty Partnerships Program has given me these past two years,” said Brianna Buchanan. “The memories made with the program will be long-lasting.”

The camp program encouraged students to exercise and strengthen their skills in leadership, academic immersion, and relationship building while experiencing life on a college campus.

The JCC Liberty Partnerships Program has concluded its second year of a five-year grant cycle. The program serves 360 students in grades 5-12 in Jamestown, Dunkirk and Salamanca.

The JCC Liberty Partnerships Program guides and supports students to graduation with a college and career ready mindset and provides academic, social and emotional support.
