Lighthouse Festival set for this weekend

Come join the fun! The Dunkirk Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum is holding its annual Lighthouse/Lightship festival on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17-18.

This year’s festival will be a family fun weekend. Saturday, Aug. 17, there will be games for children of all ages, a Chinese Auction, music by “Bad Habit” (5:00), craft and food vendors, and in the evening (8:00), a showing of “Pete’s Dragon” on the big screen. The lighthouse is also hosting a raffle for two tickets to the Buffalo Bills/Miami Dolphins game on Oct. 20. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 2 for $10 and can be purchased in the gift shop until Sept. 29.

Sunday, the festival will continue with the children’s game and Chinese Auction. Then view the International Speed Boat Races from the property. It’s the best view in town! Bleachers will be set up, or bring your own chair. For an optional fee, you can watch the races from the top of the tower.

The Lancaster Amateur Radio Club will be on the property all weekend contacting lighthouses around the world.

The gate opens each day at 10 a.m. Saturday activities will go on all day until sunset when the movie begins. Sunday the property will close at 4 p.m. Parking and walking the grounds will be free. There will be a fee for games and tours of the lighthouse buildings. All proceeds benefit the Lighthouse. This year’s proceeds will go toward improving the appearance of the gift shop.
