Mitrano’s stay in county ‘felt like home’

Tracy Mitrano

Tracy Mitrano wrapped up a two-month stay in Chautauqua County noting that although New York’s 23rd Congressional District sprawls more than halfway across the state, it can feel like one big neighborhood.

The district stretches eastward some 200 miles from the spectacular shores of Lake Erie in Chautauqua County to the beauty of Owego in Tioga County.

Mitrano, a Democratic candidate for Congress in the 23rd District from Penn Yan, spent much of her time in Chautauqua County meeting with community leaders, hospital CEOs, labor organizers, women’s groups, business executives and local residents.

A cybersecurity expert, she spoke to Rotary clubs and volunteered at libraries in the area to talk with parents and children about how to be safe on the internet. With Teddy, her young retriever, often along, Mitrano visited towns and villages throughout the county and hiked with local residents on back trails as well as popular foot paths in Chautauqua County.

“Chautauqua County felt like home to me,” she said. “From place to place, this vast congressional district is diverse in its local histories, economies, industries, agricultural products, and even things like infrastructure and geography. But in citizen involvement and outright friendliness, we are very much one big neighborhood.”

Mitrano also told folks in the Congressional District’s 10 other counties about Chautauqua County through her campaign newsletter.

“With vibrant cities, picturesque towns and villages, abundant farmland, and five spectacular lakes, Chautauqua County offers a rich tapestry of all the things that make our district so special,” Mitrano wrote.
