Series set for dementia patient care partners

Chautauqua Opportunities Alzheimer’s Services is having The Savvy Caregiver series. Are you a care partner for someone who has Alzheimer’s disease or another related dementia? Are you looking for ways to increase your knowledge and confidence in this role? Participate in “The Savvy Caregiver,” a three part training to learn how to be a Savvy Caregiver! Gain: a better understanding of the disease, the skills to assess the abilities of the person with dementia, and the confidence to set and alter care giving goals. This event will take place in three consecutive sessions: Oct. 9, 16, and 23. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Darwin R. Barker Library, 7 Day St., Fredonia. Another event sponsored by COI’s Alzheimer’s Services: Tai Chi for Caregivers. Tai Chi is a gentle movement exercise that originated in China and is now practiced worldwide. In Tai Chi, one works slowly and smoothly through a system of movements that are meant to connect the mind and body. The benefits of Tai Chi are: greater strength, improved flexibility, improved balance and coordination, less stress and anxiety, better concentration and memory, and improved posture.
