Sellers seeks town seat in Pomfret

Ron Sellers

Ron Sellers, retired president of Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, is seeking election to a seat on the Pomfret Town Council. Sellers, a Pomfret resident for more than 16 years, is running with the endorsement of the Democratic and Working Families parties.

He moved to the town of Pomfret at the urging of Dr. Dana Wheelock, who felt that Ron and his late wife, Susan, would be a good fit for the town, and the town would be a good fit for them.

They settled in the village and Sellers began what would become a 13-year career as president of Hospice.

A native of Buffalo, Sellers served as a teacher, principal and central office administrator at Erie 1 BOCES for 20 years.

Sellers moved into the field of health care when he was asked to join Millard Fillmore Hospital as vice president for human resources and chief learning officer. He helped with the creation of Kaleida Health in Buffalo, then accepted a position at a large teaching hospital in Chicago, where he served as vice president for four years, helping to improve all aspects of the medical center. He was then recruited to serve as vice president of administration at an 11 hospital system serving communities in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. While in Kentucky, he received the key to the city of Hazard for helping create and relocate 200 jobs to the city.

During his career, Sellers was appointed to the Works Force Investment Boards in New York State, Chicago and Kentucky. He currently serves as a board member for Chautauqua Works, which is the local workforce development organization.

Upon his retirement from Hospice, he was recognized for his “Service To Humanity” by the Fredonia Chamber of Commerce.

Since retiring, he has continued his service by serving as an active board member of the Dunkirk Fredonia Meals on Wheels organization and as a member of the Chautauqua County Community Services Board. He is also a member of the Fredonia Planning Board.

As an elected member of the Pomfret Town Council. Sellers pledges to devote his efforts “in launching and completing a community wide process to create a vision for our town that will serve as guide as we go about the important business of creating the we want for our town,” he said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
