Collins Public Library announces upcoming events

COLLINS — The Collins Public Library, located at 2341 Main St., Collins has announced a number of events in the coming weeks. Call the library at 532-5129 for details and registrations.

Toddler Time: The current session of Toddler Time continues Friday, Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Read stories, play games, sing songs and have a snack. Ages 2 to 5. Call or stop in to register!

YA RPG Club: Saturdays, Nov. 16 and 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sign up is in the library, and fills up fast. Don’t miss out on the chance to slay the forces of evil, discover treasure, and have a blast! Ages 12 to 18. Lunch and snacks provided. Inform if special accommodations are needed.

Lap Sit with Miss Abbie: Mondays, Nov. 18 and 25 at 10:30 a.m. Join in for this fun program for children ages 6 months to 2 years with a caregiver. A great introduction to early literacy skills with rhymes, finger plays, music, stories and more. Sign up required.

Story Hour: Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. This month’s theme will be Dinosaurs! Join in for stories, games, crafts, coloring, and many times snacks. Ages 3 to 10. Sign up is required.

Quilting with Florence: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join these knowledgeable ladies as they work on projects.

YA Writing Club: Thursday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. Ages 13 to 20. Inform if special accommodations are required. Snacks provided.

Computer Class-MS Excel Basics: Saturday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. An introduction to the basic functions of Microsoft Excel, you’ll use a spreadsheet format to create a very simple budget. Free and open to Library patrons age 17 and above. Registration required.

CLOSED: The Library will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11 for Veterans’ Day and will re-open on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. Use the “Book” drop or renew online at www.Buffalolib.org.

Evening Book Club: Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Discuss “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” by Michelle McNamara. Request a copy on line or stop by the Library Desk. Call or stop by if interested.

Tech Trainer: Call the Library for available topics, dates and times. Want some help getting started with tech, learn to use the 3D Printer or try Virtual Reality? Call to set up a one-on-one appointment.

Friends of the Collins Public Library Meeting: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. There are applications in the Library or come to the meeting. Always looking for enthusiastic people who love their library.

Morning Book Club: Monday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. Discuss “The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Diaz. Request a copy online or at the Library Desk.

Young Adult Art Club: Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Love to draw, paint and create? Then this is for you! This club will meet to learn about illustration and publishing. Ages 10 to 20. Sketchbooks and materials will be provided. Stop in to register.

Young Adult Book Club: Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Discuss “Sweep: the Story of a Girl and her Monster” by Jonathan Auxier. Ages 13 and up. Request a copy online or at the Library Desk.

Thanksgiving Story Hour: Join us for stories, games, crafts, coloring, and many times snacks. Ages 3 to 10. Sign up is required.

LEGO Club: Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Come and play with LEGOs in the Library. We will put your creation on display in the Library. Ages 4 to 12. Registration required, call or stop in.

Library of Things Demos: Friday, Nov. 29, 1 to 4 p.m. You probably know that you can get books and movies from your local library, but how about a metal detector? The Collins Library has begun offering a number of less traditional items in its collection, such as a turntable, karaoke machine, ukulele, button maker, and a number of board games. All of these items are free to check out from the library with an adult library card. There will be demos of the items available, and the “things” themselves can be checked out on that day.

Creative Crafts for Adults: Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. All materials are provided but registration is limited. Ages 18+.

Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. will be a Google Maps Training. Not only does it give turn-by-turn directions, but you can also take a virtual “walking tour” of some famous places.

The Collins Library regularly holds one on one computer help. You choose the subject, and work with the staff. Call the library for available times.

Our classes are free and open to the public, but registration is required and limited, so call the library or stop in to register. Most classes are designed for Patrons 17 and above. Buffalo & Erie County Library Cared may be required for some classes. Free Library cards can be obtained for those living, working or going to school in Erie County, and those living in the Gowanda School Tax District.

Erie County Library cards are available to all Erie County residents, all individuals who work in Erie County, and all those who live in the Gowanda School tax district.
