Driver avoids deer, charged with DWI in accident
HANOVER — A motorist attempting to avoid striking a deer is facing charges after a one-vehicle accident late Wednesday.
Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report they were dispatched with Forestville EMS to the incident on Creek Road in the Town of Hanover. The operator of the vehicle, Nathaniel Smith, 31, of Forestville, stated he attempted to avoid striking two deer and slid off the roadway into the ditch.
Smith was transported to Brooks Hospital in Dunkirk for non-life threatening injuries. Following an investigation into incident, deputies charged Smith with DWI. Smith will answer his charge at a later date in the Town of Hanover Court.
