Benjamin Prescott Chapter of NSDAR meets

The monthly meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held at the Patterson Library in Westfield on Nov. 7. There were 14 members present. The meeting was called to order at 1:05 p.m. by Regent Brenda Johnson, who also welcomed associate member Claudia Markham-Ahl and her sister Kathy Hebb.

The opening ritual was conducted by Regent Johnson. Deborah Langebartel read the DAR President’s Message and Chaplain Elizabeth Sedlmayer read the DAR National Defense article.

Regent Johnson mentioned the passing of former State Regent Wilhelmena Rhodes Kelly. Johnson stated that the funeral was well-attended by DAR daughters from all over the country. Johnson also mentioned how fortunate the chapter was to have her attend our 120th celebration in April. Memorial donations to honor former State Regent Wilhelmena Rhodes Kelly can be made to the New York State Regent’s Project.

Elizabeth Mourer passed around a 1948 manual entitled “DAR Manual for Citizenship” and she gave it to the chapter as a gift.

A committee was formed to plan field trips for the summer. The committee members are Elizabeth Mourer, Barbara Pietro, and Deborah Langebartel. They will plan and make reservations for two trips for the summer. Some ideas for trips included: USS Little Rock, Teddy Roosevelt Inaugural Site, Buffalo Historical Museum, Buffalo Naval Park, Fort Niagara, and Erie Canal.

An Open House for the spring was discussed. A possible date for the Open House is March 14, 2020.

Regent Johnson stated that the Christmas party will be held at Webb’s Captain’s Table Restaurant in Mayville. It will be on Dec. 7 at noon. Members are asked to donate money to be sent to the Kate Duncan Smith (KDS) DAR School in Huntsville, Alabama.

Regent Johnson reminded members to log their volunteer hours on the DAR National Website. If a member is unable to do so, they are asked to give the hours to Johnson and she will take care of them.

The next regular meeting is Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Patterson Library in Westfield at 1 p.m.
