Girl Scouts celebrate founder’s birthday

Submitted Photo Girl Scout Troop No. 20237 donates snacks to the Dunkirk Public Library in honor of founder’s birthday.

Girl Scout Troop No. 20237 celebrated the birthday of their founder, Juliette Gordon Low, which is on Oct. 31.

The girls learned that Low was born in Savannah, Georgia; her nickname was Daisy; she did a handstand every year on her birthday; and she died from breast cancer.

The girls played a party game that was popular when Low was a young girl, known as “pancake flipping.” Each girl was given a pancake on a paper plate that they had to flip and have land back on the plate, which sometimes did happen! A paper pumpkin craft was made by each girl that contained fun facts about Low.

Going along with the Girl Scout motto, “do a good turn daily,” the troop members brought snacks to fill the new snack centers located at the Dunkirk Public Library for students to enjoy after school. The troop has been using the library to hold their troop meetings for a couple of years and wanted to show their appreciation while providing snacks for their peers. Miss Maria, librarian, accepted the snacks from the girls on behalf of the library.
