RTPI to host Holiday Open House

JAMESTOWN — RTPI will hold their annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Amidst beautiful holiday decor inside RTPI’s iconic facility, visitors will enjoy free admission into the galleries, refreshments, and a chance to win a gift bag filled with unique museum store items. This event is part of Swedish Market Day in Jamestown – Julmarknad, sponsored by the Scandinavian Studies Program at Jamestown Community College.

RTPI’s is currently featuring the artwork of Guy Coheleach in their galleries. Guy Coheleach: Wildlife in Art includes over 40 original paintings by the artist. Original artwork, artifacts and memorabilia from the Peterson Collection are also on view. Two docent-led tours will be offered during the open house event: 11 a.m. — RTPI staff will take you through the galleries to view and discuss the featured exhibition, Guy Coheleach: Wildlife in Art, as well as select Roger Tory Peterson works and memorabilia; 2 p.m. — Local resident and former architect Marlin Casker will lead a unique architecture tour. You will explore the historical, cultural and artistic details and significance of RTPI’s headquarters building, an architectural gem. In addition to tours, RTPI will host special guests in the museum store — owners of Barbara Grace Journals will be representing and selling their handmade, vintage inspired journals from 10 a.m.. to 5 p.m. From 1-4 p.m., local authors Kathleen (Crocker) Evans and Jane Currie will sign copies of their Arcadia Publishing book titles, including Jamestown, Chautauqua Lake Region, and Chautauqua Institution. Also from 1-4 p.m., visitors will enjoy marshmallow roasting and hot chocolate outdoors with Paul’s Rocket Stoves.

RTPI’s Holiday Open House is a wonderful opportunity to browse the array of new items featured in RTPI’s museum store, such as original artwork, limited-edition prints, holiday ornaments, local honey and candles, Charley Harper merchandise, and much more.
