Trinity Masterworks begins rehearsal for spring concert

This Sunday at 6 p.m., Trinity Masterworks Choir will begin rehearsals for their Spring Concert (April 4) featuring “The Sunrise Mass” by Norwegian- born composer, Ola Gjeilo. “The Sunrise Mass” was commissioned by two choirs in Norway and was premiered in 2008. It is scored for double choir and string orchestra. In the composer’s words “I wanted the work to evolve from transparent and spacey to something earthy and grounded, from nebulous and pristine to emotional and dramatic – as a metaphor for human development from child to adult or as a spiritual journey.” It truly is a serene and breathtaking work.

Trinity Masterworks Choir was founded in 2016 by Phillip McMullen who saw a need to bring community music making back to northern Chautauqua County. The mission is to create a welcoming and safe space for singers of every level to explore larger scale, but accessible, pieces of music and to explore and develop their voices. Whether you are an experienced singer or someone who sang in middle school choir and miss the experience, all are welcome. The choir is a mix of community singers of every age, SUNY Fredonia students and graduates, and singers from local middle and high schools. All are welcome to join weekly on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Day St., Fredonia (enter using the back door).

Trinity Masterworks Choir is a non-profit group and is funded entirely by donations and free will offerings given at the concerts. Each season, the choir pays for orchestral parts as well as hiring instrumentalists and soloists and offer discounted scores to its singers. If interested in adopting a musician or donating to the choir, email phillip.mcmullen01@gmail.com for details.
