Dunkirk man charged in city shooting

A Dunkirk man has been arrested for allegedly shooting a gun in the city.

On Wednesday at around 3:10 p.m. Dunkirk Police received several calls reporting gunshots fired on Ruggles Street. Responding officers quickly located the subject, Christian A. Horta Romero, 21, coming out from a backyard of a residence on Ruggles St.

Investigation found that the Romero allegedly discharged several rounds from a firearm while in the back yard of the residence. A loaded firearm was recovered from the scene.

Romero is being charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and discharging a firearm within the city limits.

He is being held in city lock up pending arraignment. Dunkirk Police were assisted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.
