CASSADAGA — John Sipos, Cassadaga Village Historian, presented his annual year end report to the village mayor, William Dorman, at a recent village board meeting. Sipos has served as the village historian now for 15 years and will continue in that position. In the annual report, Sipos wrote about his record keeping, gathering historical information and the presentations throughout the past year.

Sipos said that he enjoys what he is doing for the village, and said that he gathers material from many sources, and that many people are giving him records and photographs for historical preservation. He noted one example of a house being remodeled and many old papers and news articles from 70 years ago were found behind kitchen cabinets.

When Sipos began as the historian, he began with one file cabinet which has now grown to five.

Sipos plans to have a historical display of old village photographs on Memorial Day at the Cassadaga American Legion Hall on Maple Avenue after the annual Memorial Day service.

Starting at $3.50/week.
