Chadwick Bay Girl Scout Service Unit holds World Thinking Day event

Submitted Photo These Girl Scouts represented France.

The Chadwick Bay Girl Scout Service Unit (Made up of Girl Scouts from Brocton, Cassadaga, Dunkirk and Fredonia) held a Girl Scout World Thinking Day Event at the Dunkirk East Town Fire Hall on Roberts Road Feb. 22. There were approximately 50 girls, parents and leaders in attendance. As the girls entered the building, they stopped to make passports. They would collect a stamp or sticker as they visited each of the countries. The eight countries represented were France, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Japan, Peru, Thailand and Chile. The girls learned about scouting traditions, customs, games, foods and crafts from these countries. They snacked on croissants, Irish apple cake, pretzels and Australian bread, butter and sprinkles (a birthday tradition).

The Troop representing France wore traditional berets and scarves while the troop representing Chile made very cool ponchos to wear to the event. Scouts made llamas in Peru and origami in Japan. The afternoon ended with a friendship circle and the traditional squeeze and singing.
