Mayor Wilfred Rosas has announced that the City of Dunkirk DPW recycling and city yard waste facility on Lucas Avenue is being improved, and the facility will be re-opened for city-only residents starting this Saturday, April 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Recycling material will now be sorted in the indoor bins and all materials must be clean as just a little bit of garbage or cross-mingling will cost taxpayer’s the full amount of landfill fees for that batch.

The facility is camera-monitored and vehicle plates will be recorded and checked to be sure they carry in city registration. Non-resident dumping can be prosecuted with significant fines under City Code. The disposal of these materials is a direct cost to city taxpayers, so the facility is limited only to those residential taxpayers. Vehicles should be cars or SUVs as no large trucks or trailers will be accepted at this time.

Remember to check your recycling calendars for yard waste pickup right at the street near your house during the summer months and also for the days the city picks up your recyclables right at your curb side.

The Chadwick Bay Group of the several regional communities identified brush disposal as the top priority for that group at the beginning of 2019 and the city hopes that a regional location and solution to this priority will be addressed and put in place soon. If you are not a city resident, please contact your local community for their advice on brush and recycling disposal in your location; the county transfer station also offers a recycling area.
