Dairy princess, court crowned on Facebook

JAMESTOWN – It’s a new age for the Chautauqua County Dairy Promotions Committee. After more than fifty years of coronations, a pageant is happening without a caterer, emcee, or pageant attendees. Nevertheless, a pageant will happen!

The group created a Chautauqua County Dairy Promotions Facebook page several years ago, in hopes of building more awareness around dairy farming and the dairy princess program. Throughout the month of May, dairy ambassadors (youth connected to the dairy industry who are not yet old enough to run for dairy princess), have been introduced, along with the farm they represent. As the month ends, several live videos will appear on the page.

Events to watch for on the page include a moving up ceremony for two ambassadors who are nearing eligibility to run for princess, farewell speeches from the outgoing court members, and the coronation ceremony for the new princess and her court. June is dairy month, and the new princess plans to use the page to share information about dairy products and dairy farming in place of her usual duties until New York’s COVID-19 restrictions are further relaxed.

American Dairy Association North East (ADA North East) is the dairy farmer-funded organization funded by participating dairy farmer’s checkoff investment to build demand and sales for milk and dairy foods throughout the local region.
