Although there is distance between teachers and students during the COVID-19 pandemic learning remains at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

To assist with at-home instruction, the Erie-2-Chautauqua County BOCES (E2CCB) LoGuidice Educational Center recently received a donation from the Teacher’s Desk in Buffalo. The Teacher’s Desk provides school supplies, books and teacher resources, free-of-charge, for students in 230 eligible WNY schools. Its mission is to provide materials that teacher’s would otherwise have to pay for out of their own pocket through sponsor support.

“I spoke with Dr. Garaas-Johnson, LoGuidice Educational Center principal-supervisor, to arrange for enough books for all of our students at LoGuidice and picked them up the following day,” said E2CCB Special Education Teacher Laura Pellegriti. “We organized the delivery and I was happy to see they went out so quickly.”

The site received hundreds of brand-new Disney books to grow students’ at-home libraries during this time of remote learning.

“Three times a week our staff at the LoGuidice Educational Center delivers meals to 185 children. Recently, one of those meal deliveries was extra special when families each received a book for their child to enjoy. We are grateful for the generosity of our community partner, The Teacher’s Desk, in supporting our students’ learning during this difficult time,” said Dr. Garaas-Johnson.
