VFW announces contests for students

The Veterans of Foreign Wars announces their 2020-2021 Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy.

The Patriots Pen contest is for grades 6 to 8. The theme is “What is Patriotism to me?” A 300-400 word written essay is required. The contest is open to all students. Submissions must be sent to the John T. Murray Post, 111-113 Deer St., Dunkirk, N.Y. Attention: Pat Rabb. Entries must be at the Post by Oct. 30, 2020.

The Voice Of Democracy theme is “Is this the country the founders envisioned?” The format is a 3 to 5 minute audio essay for grades 9 to 12. The deadline is Oct 30, 2020. Send submissions to the VFW post listed above.

The Young American Patriotic Art award is opened to grades 9 to 12, with a maximum age of 18 years old. Art will be judged on Patriotic theme and technique. The deadline is March 30, 2021. Refer to the official application student brochure for details and specific requirements.
