Man dies in weekend canoe accident
A south county man lost his life in a boating accident over the weekend.
Alexander J. Foti, 35, of Jamestown, passed away following a canoe accident Saturday. His obituary was published Wednesday in the Post-Journal.
According to news reports, Foti had been riding in a canoe near Kennedy just after 6 p.m. when his canoe overturned. He had been in the front of the canoe with another person when it overturned. He was given first aid and rushed to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital in Jamestown for treatment and later transferred to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he later died.
Messages with the State Police have not been returned.
This was the third accidental fatality over the weekend. On Saturday Timothy Vogt, 31, died in a motorcycle accident in the town of Pomfret. On Sunday Brian T. Twardeski, 46, of Jamestown drowned in Chautauqua Lake after jumping in the lake to help children get out of the water. His body was recovered Monday.
