JAMESTOWN — More than 400 entries came from around the world for Audubon Community Nature Center’s 2020 Nature Photography Contest.

Twelve countries plus 41 U.S. states and Puerto Rico were represented. Winners and finalists are from as far away as India, Saudi Arabia and Chile and as nearby as northern Ohio, northwestern Pennsylvania, and Western New York.

Each winning photographer received a $200 cash prize, and their photographs are on display at the Nature Center in Jamestown.

Images could be entered in any of three categories: Wildlife Portraits (any wild animal; no photos of animals in captivity, such as pets, zoos, or rehab animals), Macro Abstracts (anything that is natural/wild such as flowers, insects, leaves, water droplets, eyes/feathers of animals, close-up textures in nature, etc.), and Habitats and Landscapes (places that any wild animals live in and/or waterfalls, sunsets, mountains, etc.)

¯ Youth Habitats and Landscapes: “The Bass Rock” by Katy Read, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom

With its outdoor exhibit of Liberty, the non-releasable Bald Eagle, Audubon Community Nature Center is located on a 600-acre nature preserve at 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, N.Y., one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren.

The first floor of the Nature Center building, including the Blue Heron Gift Shop, live animals, and the Nature Photography Contest winning photographs, is open to the public Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Because not all of the building is accessible due to COVID-19 restrictions, admission is by donation only.
