JCC Sets Music Therapy Presentation

The use of music therapy as a technique for healing, treatment, and health will be explored by Craig Stevens, founder and director of Mercyhurst University’s music therapy program, in events sponsored during December by Jamestown Community College.

The presentations, free and open to the public, will be held on Zoom at 8 a.m. and noon on Dec. 7 and 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 8. To attend a presentation, connect to zoom.us/j/2937648448.

The programs are sponsored by JCC’s Society and Human Expression Career Community and college program

Prior to being appointed to the faculty at Mercyhurst, Stevens was director of medical music therapy at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. His work included patient assessment, treatment planning, and application of music therapy for neurology, oncology, palliative care, and intensive care patients.

During his time at Hamot, Stevens also forged a relationship as a neurologic music therapist with Health South Rehabilitation, allowing for a continuum of care from an acute care setting to a neuro-rehabilitation setting for those living with stroke, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s Disease.

Stevens is the founder and owner of Lake Erie Music Therapy, a full-time music therapy practice in Erie that specializes in the treatment of adults and children living with neurological, behavioral, and intellectual challenges.
