Route 60 water lines almost completed
Progress is being made on the North County Water District lines being ran on Route 60 in the town of Dunkirk.
So far workers have been up and down the entire length digging up the shoulders and putting the new lines into the ground.
“Other than being wet and the weather things are coming along just fine,” said Richard Purol, Dunkirk town supervisor. “They should have all the piping done in the next day or two.”
Purol shared that once everything is in the ground it’s a matter of chlorinating and then connecting each individual property.
“They have the line ran under the Thruway connecting Vineyard Drive done,” Purol added. “Having all these lines on the shoulder will make working on the lines a lot easier.”
The current lines run under the road and every time there is a break it costs the town a fortune to fix them.
“All of this work is going to make just that aspect, so much better,” Purol stated.
Currently the project, which started at the end of September, has an expected completion time of the end of the year. Though the timing with weather was not the most ideal, the biggest holdup was that the town was waiting on permits from the state.
“They got a late start here because we had to wait for the state to give us our permits,” Purol said in an earlier interview. “The state’s not having as many people working as they used to. It took a while to get that going or we would have started much earlier than this.”
