Fredonia hydrant flushing continuing
The village of Fredonia is doing hydrant and water line flushing and so far things are going well, according to Chief Water Plant Operator Chris Surma.
“Nothing has really been reported from residents,” Surma said. “We still get some people that call and complain about dirty water, but there’s bound to be a little when flushing is going on.”
Surma told the OBSERVER that the village couldn’t do the flushing over the summer due to the pandemic.
“There were 90 days where there was nobody at the DPW building,” Surma added. “We usually flush right after college lets out, but that was right around that time. Then we couldn’t do it in the fall because of the boil water order and there was no point in flushing the lines when there was dirty water being dealt with.”
Surma explained that it’s all part of the cycle that the water department has to deal with.
The work began on Nov. 30 with the flushing being done from 3 to 11 p.m. according to the village of Fredonia’s website. The flushing will take approximately two weeks and during this process, residents may experience turbid water and reduced water pressure.
The village recommends that residents check the quality of their water before doing laundry.
