Fredonia woman facing Leandra’s Law charge

WESTFIELD — A Fredonia woman is facing a Leandra’s Law charge following a traffic stop over the weekend.

New York state troopers were alerted Saturday at 3 p.m. for a report of a vehicle facing eastbound in the westbound lane on Route 20 in the town of Westfield. Troopers and officers with the Westfield Police Department located the vehicle and identified the driver as 30-year-old Megann M. Panek along with a 6-year-old child.

Police noted “obvious signs of impairment” of Panek, who also was unable to answer questions regarding her intended destination or where she was coming from.

A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana, methamphetamine and various drug paraphernalia.

Panek consented to a blood draw at Brooks Memorial Hospital. The child was safely turned over to a family member.

The Fredonia woman was issued tickets to appear in Westfield Town Court on charges of aggravated driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated DWI with a child (Leandra’s Law), seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.
