Dunkirk Mayor Wilfred Rosas is hopeful another COVID-19 vaccination clinic will be coming to Dunkirk.
Last week, the mayor said, the most recent clinic in the city was held at the Senior Center. "I'd been communicating with (the Chautauqua County Health Department) and on (Jan. 18) they said they were trying to get one in Dunkirk, but they could not confirm to me that they would have it or when they would have it," he said. "They said that they would have one, but they didn't know when. Well it turns out they were able to bring it and they brought it that Thursday (Jan. 21); and they did a little over 250 vaccinations here at our senior center."
Rosas shared that the shots given out were to groups that are eligible under the 1A and 1B phases per the state guidelines, so that would include essentials, first responders and people over 65.
Though that clinic filled fast and little was known of it, Rosas is attempting to get another one in the city in the near future. "We are working towards another clinic, I have put a call in requesting that there be another one here in the city of Dunkirk. I've even asked to become involved in letting people know," Rosas stated. "The people that were vaccinated did so through the state website to schedule their appointment. They are doing this in different scattered areas throughout the state and in Western New York; we were chosen as one of them."
Rosas wanted it stressed that to sign up for a vaccine if one falls in the 1A and 1B groups to do so at https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/
"I'm just pleased that they were able to get one in Dunkirk and I think that we'll have another one coming."
